Metallic, and silvery-gray, rarest of the precious metals. Platinum is chemically inert, like gold, does not tarnish, unlike silver, and is very suitable for use in jewelry and coins. It is heavier than gold and has a high (3223 degrees F) melting point. Natural crystals of platinum (cubic) are very rare.
